LATE HARVEST FRESH HOP FESTIVAL

Saturday, October 19th Noon - 5pm FREE

Late Harvest Fresh Hop Festival @ Loyal Legion

Just when you thought fresh hop season was over and it was time to return to drinking boring old kilned hop beers...the Late Harvest Fresh Hop Fest is here to delight your palates with a curated selection of new school hopped beers that are just now being released! Portland Beer Week has organized a curated selection of some of the finest new fresh hop beers from Oregon and Washington that use hot new hop varieties like Citra, Mosaic, Comet and Idaho 7. These fresh hop beers are released much later than the rest because these hip hops are harvested last, at the tail end of the season.

The Late Harvest Fresh Hop Fest will feature hard-to-find beers from Block 15 Brewing, Grains of Wrath, Bale Breaker, Fremont Brewing, Reuben’s Brews, Fort George Brewery, Wayfinder Beer, Sunriver Brewing, Culmination Brewing and more.

Best of all, this fest is FREE, you just have to purchase your beers like regular at the bar. A special menu of 12oz glass pours or tasting flights of eight 5oz pours will be available for this event and the late harvest fresh hop beers only. Loyal Legion will host the Late Harvest Fresh Hop Fest on Saturday, October 19th from noon to 5pm.

BEER LIST below (subject to change):

Wayfinder Beer/Varietal Beer: Peaceful Death and Pretty Flowers Fresh Hop Hazy IPA

A collab w/ Varietal Beer in Sunnyside, Washington in the Yakima Valley.  Brewed with fresh mosaic hops. 6.5% ABV

Block 15 Brewing: Fresh Catch

Fresh Hopped Pale Ale

A fresh-hopped pale ale brewed with Willamette Valley Amarillo fresh hops that we picked up at the hop farm hours before adding them to a custom "hop back" tank, which we then pumped hot wort through on its way to the fermenter, extracting vibrant notes of orange marmalade, resinous herbs, and ripe citrus. ABV: 5.7%

Culmination Brewing: Fresh Hop Tiny Spirals Hazy Pale Ale

Our Final Fresh Hop beer of the season. This snappy little 4.5% Hazy Pale was Dry Hopped with 100lbs of Fresh Idaho 7 that we first flash froze using liquid nitrogen and second proceeded to shatter for maximum contact with the gland and oils within. The result is extremely pleasant notes of Pineapple, Pine, Stonefruit, and a soft earthiness. We also used Simcoe and Vic Secret in the Whirlpool as well as Ella in the Dry Hop.

Fremont Brewing: Head Full of Fresh Hops

Head Full of Fresh Hops starts with select fresh hops harvested in Yakima and loaded into the brew kettle within 24 hours of harvest.  Fresh hop beers signal the harvest season in the Pacific Northwest and are the height of our brewing year. “Friends bring happiness into your life, best friends bring fresh hop beer.” – VWP

Down & Dirty: 2-Row Pale, Rolled Oats, Flaked Wheat, and White Wheat with Mosaic and Ekuanot hops and Lactose.

ABV: 6.8%          IBU: ACT (a crap ton)

Reuben’s Brews: Fresh Hop Double Crush IPA

Fresh Hop version of our Double Crush imperial hazy IPA with fresh Citra hops.

Grains of Wrath: FH Heavy Wetal IPA

Grains of Wrath: Fresh Hop Papermaker Pale

Aslan Brewing: Fresh Hop Kellerbier

Buoy Beer: My Own Private Idaho - 4.8% 25 IBU

Session ale with a subtle malt bill and fresh hopped with Idaho 7 from Crosby Hops.

Wander Brewing: 400 Cents: Centennial Fresh Hop

Our first fresh hop of the 2019 Yakima Valley harvest season. 400 pounds of freshly picked (we're talking like 5 hours fresh) gorgeous cones of centennial from CLS Farms made it into this very special extra pale ale. Featuring barley, spelt, and a whole lotta fresh hops.  5.6% ABV / 50 IBU / 4 SRM

Wander Brewing: Fresh Cassette

Our second fresh hop of the 2019 Yakima Valley harvest season. 320 pounds of freshly picked Citra cones from Cornerstone Ranches in the hopback followed by a dosing of Citra cryo and ultra-tropical El Dorado at dryhop. Round mouthfeel with candied tangerine, green melon and tropical tang. This one's for the hop heads. You know who you are. 6.0% ABV / 25 IBU / 4 SRM

*Winner – Best in Show at 2019 Yakima Fresh Hop Festival

Alesong Brewing & Blending: Farm Fresh

Blended oak-aged farmhouse ale with fresh Comet hops from Cosby. Medium acidity sour ale with big citrus, fruit and resin nose from the fresh hops used in the dry hopping stage. 6.8%

Oakshire Brewing: Hop Harvest 2019

Hazy IPA with Fresh Citra and Mosaic

6.3% ABV

Oakshire brewed two different fresh hop beers over the course of two days, one was with fresh citra hops and the other with mosaic hops, both from Coleman Farms in Oregon. Both beers were brewed with the same hazy ale base and yeast strain. After fermentation each was double dry-hopped with the same hop varieties from last years harvest and then blended together to showcase their combined fresh hop characteristics.

Bale Breaker / Cloudburst: Citra Slicker

Wet Hop IPA – 6.2% ABV | 70 IBU

Each hop harvest, the big city brewers from Cloudburst Brewing make the trek from downtown Seattle over the Cascades to team up with the farm brewers from Bale Breaker to brew Citra® Slicker Wet Hop IPA, a fresh hop beer that was first brewed in 2014 with then-owner of Elysian Brewing, Dick Cantwell. While it takes the Cloudburst team over two hours to get to Bale Breaker, the hundreds of pounds of wet Citra® hops picked fresh from the fields travel just four minutes from farm to kettle. Heavily dry-hopped, while light in color and body, this beer is all about these fresh, farm-grown hops!

Fort George Brewing: Fields of Green

Rotating seasonal fresh hop IPA, this year using fresh Comet hops from Crosby Farm. Hops, malts, and yeast may vary from batch to batch. The 7.6% ABV will always remain the same.

Sunriver Brewing: D’ Kine

This fresh hop IPA uses over 100 pounds of fresh Mosaic hops provided by our friends at B.T. Loftus Ranches in Yakima, WA.  These unique "wet" hops provide layers of tropical fruit, citrus, salted blueberry and earthy-pine flavors. Enjoy this once a year hop harvest brew!
